Unconvo

Launched October 2022

Designed and launched Unconvo, a note-taking and book-tracking app, to TestFlight.

Unconvo is currently v1.1 (5), its 18th update shipped 1/25/23 to 180+ users.

Role: UX/UI Designer

Through user interviews I had previously conducted, I found that readers have felt self-conscious when they’ve discussed books both in-person and online. They would rather write their thoughts down privately.

User Problem

The goal was to pivot Unconvo from its origins as a desktop-based social network for readers to a mobile app for readers of physical books.

Business Goal

Design a mobile app that allows users to take notes on the books they’re reading and keep track of books that they’re reading, that they want to read, and that they’ve read.

Design Solution

Launched note-taking and book-tracking mobile app to 50+ iPhone users on TestFlight in October 2022. That number has grown to 180+ users as of January 2023.

Analyzing user interviews

Research

The user interviews I conducted showed that people were too self-conscious to talk about their reading online, they preferred to talk with a friend. That research aligned with research the Unconvo team had conducted earlier and after many long discussions, we decided to pivot. We would design a mobile app that was focused on improving the reading experience for individual readers. The next step was to figure out exactly how to approach the reading experience.

Brainstorming possible userflows

Ideation

We tried to figure out how to provide the most value to people reading physical books. After narrowing our ideas down to focus on the user’s experience while reading a book, we decided to create an app that would improve people’s reading experience by providing them a place to take notes and catalogue their books.

Add book to library flow

New note flow

Design

I focused on the two main tasks users would accomplish: adding books to their library and then adding notes to them. It was important to me that creating a note was accessible directly from the home screen to make the interaction as fast as possible
